Hessel, Pastor John - November 13, 2007 |
.in many ways provided creative leadership in the church he
pastored for years, South St. Louis County Baptist in the St. Louis, MO,
region. Featured in this radio interview is the church's establishing and
developing a financial foundation under the church's umbrella, which now is
resulting in tens of thousands of "over and above" dollars going to missions
and other ministries. The church selects the members of the board, which has
501 C (3) status. The foundation began slowly. Its purpose was to protect
the dollars given to the foundation, ever continuing the principal's growth,
ever earning to fund more missions and other ministries. Upon the death of
a lady who had been a foundation board member, it was discovered that she
willed more than $900,000 to the foundation. Pastor John points out on the
interview that she likely would not have given such a donation if there had
not been the foundation to receive it. And in her giving of it, her money
will keep on advancing the Kingdom of God until Jesus Comes. John Hessel
welcomes helping your church or other ministry do the same kind of thing to
advance the Kingdom of God. John can be contacted at (314) 293-0038 and

John Hiskey…and the first Christian radio station in a poor African nation - June 2008 |
|
John Hiskey, former 18-wheeler truck driver who, with his wife Rachel, began taking mission trips to Guinea Bissau in West Africa, one of the poorest nations in the world. This led to their call to be career missionaries there. In the move of God in GB, more villages began requesting pastors to be sent to them than there were native pastors to be sent. Thus was birthed the vision for that nation’s first Christian radio station. Its signal would cover that entire small nation wherein virtually everyone has access to a transistor radio. At the conclusion, be blessed by the “loaves and fishes” story, except in this case it is the multiplying building blocks for the station! My wife Joan Hendrick and I have the joy of contributing to this historical ministry project, both in publicity and in finances. The new station’s development is advancing in three phases: (1) a goal of $30,000 for the large generator to power it (the nation has no electrical power system) and the protective structures encasing it; (2) a goal of $20,000 for all the radio equipment and studio necessities to record and produce many Gospel radio programs (to at first be aired through purchased time on the one other station there in Gabu, GB, and later broadcast when the new station is “up and running”); and (3) the purchase of the transmitting tower, license from the government, and whatever else required to begin an independent radio station. The more precise financial goal of Phase Three will be established as we draw closer to the project’s completion. Please note that the wonderfully successful Trans World Radio (www.twr.org) is our consultant and guide in the project, assuring us that things will be done right! (The transmissions of the Gospel of Jesus by Trans World Radio stations can be accessed by 85% of the peoples of the earth … in languages (over 200) understood by 85% of the world’s population.)

Greg Holder, cofounder of www.adventconspiracy.org; “worship fully, spend less, give more, love all” |
|
On this radio interview Senior Pastor Greg Holder of Windsor Crossing Church (www.wcrossing.org) invites St. Louis, MO area Christian leaders to a November 11 church breakfast … but since has confirmed that baseball great Albert Pujols will be present and help host it. The ultimate focus of the event is the reality that more people in the world die from diseases from bad drinking water than die from starvation. Out of this burden Greg and Windsor Crossing were among the founders of The Advent Conspiracy (www.adventconspiracy.org), a “conspiracy” against big spending in Christmastime gift giving of “things” and “stuff” to each other. Instead, The Advent Conspiracy, now composed of about 100 churches, urges redirected giving for the digging of pure water wells in the world’s poor countries. It is a partnership with Living Water International (www.water.cc) who, since 1991, has been involved in digging 7,000 of such wells. Hearing that Windsor had become very generous in this great pure-water-well-digging effort, I asked Greg, in effect, “how generous?” After pausing, he estimated the church’s total to be between $500,000 and $1,000,000. They have great joy in providing The Living Water…Jesus…with pure drinking water to so many of the world’s poor. Greg Holder is co-author of a just released book, The Advent Conspiracy. Help get the word out re the November 11 continental breakfast, where we learn more of the vision. See www.wcrossing.org for additional information and indicate if we need to call in reservations.

Helen Howell & Josie Drummond – importance of believers worldwide in the Global Day of Prayer |
|
A processional in the St. Louis (MO) Global Day of Prayer (www.praystl.org) underscores the importance and worth of people from all over the world. Josie Drummond, of Mexican descent, urges fellow Hispanics to be full participants in the Global Day of Prayer. Helen reads Revelation 5:9 about a powerful part of Heaven’s activity: And they sang a new song: "You [Jesus] are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.” Then Josie issues an invitation to the GDOP in Spanish. Both ladies serve as members of the St. Louis Global Day of Prayer Preparation Team under the leadership of Coordinator Charlie Fay. The Global Day of Prayer (www.globaldayofprayer.com) was birthed in Africa and now involves millions each year in nearly every country in the world.

Pastor Michael Jones … applying the Gospel as an instrument of inner-city impact |
|
Pastor Michael Jones, a longtime friend, is the Senior Pastor of the Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church in the north side of St. Louis, MO (www.ftmbc.org). Highlights from his website accurately describe him as having “… a great enthusiasm for God’s word and people.” He is consumed by the belief that “… The Gospel is a message of change, therefore our focus is to evangelize the community by exemplifying the powerful presence of God in the lives of disciples which will help to transform a community, city, country and the world…God can take the life of those counted out, the oppressed, the overlooked and by His grace change lives and raise a standard allowing them to walk in a new way of life.” Michael and his grandfather are the only two pastors in the history of the church, which now ministers through preaching, community involvement, music, a gymnasium, a 100-plus-unit senior adult residence center, a medical facility, etc. The growing impact of Michael, the church staff, and all of Friendly Temple is an amazing story of progress -- made by the impact of the Gospel of Jesus -- in inner-city transformation in St. Louis. While a couple of discussion points in this on demand interview describe some important recent events (their Dr. Martin Luther King celebration and Michael’s message at Central Presbyterian Church in West St. Louis County regarding the recent elections), it reveals the heart of Pastor Jones and provides inspiration to the listener. Jason Julian played in 3 bowls; later depressed, suicidal; now joyfully focused on inner-city youth |
|
Playing football in three bowl games for the University of Tennessee, along with living the party life, did not bring happiness or fulfillment to Jason Julian. In time emptiness and depression set in, accompanied by thoughts of suicide. An encounter with Jesus Christ changed everything. Jason now leads Urban K-life in St. Louis, MO, a ministry to the heart of the inner-city young people. The Urban K-Life staff members are an ongoing “presence” that spends time daily “… hanging out ...” with hundreds of inner-city young people. An ideally located former “rest” home for the elderly – valued at more than one million dollars -- was donated to the STL K-Life. It is being remodeled to become a meeting place for the inner-city youth, as well as providing living space for their growing staff. Hear Jason talk about his wonderfully changed life in Jesus … and the joy that now belongs to him, his wife and his staff as they give their lives for these treasured young people. Be impressed as you take a look at http://urbanstlouis.klife.com/.

Professor John Warren Kindt on Russia’s Shutting Down more than 2000 Casinos |
|
Professor John Warren Kindt, University of Illinois, is an expert in the area of gambling problems. His research is widely published in scores of professional journals and elsewhere. In this interview Professor Kindt points out some rather remarkable information: President Putin of Russia has shut down 2,230 casinos in Russia! This action begs the question: What does Russia know that many politicians and others in the United States do not know about how casinos negatively affect a country and culture? Fascinating information is found in this brief radio conversation.
