Scott, Senator Delbert June 5, 2007
Missouri Senator Delbert Scott stood on the floor of the Missouri Senate and quietly but clearly told a powerful and compelling personal story. He spoke of a young lady in the early 1900’s who traveled from St. Joseph, MO to Kansas City … to give away her baby! Being young and unmarried, she shed tears as she released her little girl to a family who would love and care for her. Senator Scott went on to express his thanksgiving for the action of the young mother…who, he reported, was his great-grandmother, and the baby his grandmother. This story was told on the floor of the Missouri Senate to introduce pro-life legislation. It was passed and is to be signed by Missouri Governor Matt Blunt with the expected result of more innocent children being saved. Senator Scott’s dramatic 6-minute story can be heard and seen on video by going to (1) www.senate.mo.gov, (2) clicking on “list of members,” (3) clicking on “Delbert Scott,” then (4) clicking on “VIDEO: Senator Delbert Scott, March 28, 2007: Story of Hazel Frances Scott told on floor of the Missouri Senate.” The compelling radio conversation with Senator Scott on KSIV radio in St. Louis, MO can be heard here on www.haroldhendrick.com.

Birdsong, Dr. Eugene

"Dr. Eugene Birdsong, my high school classmate, has delivered 8,000 babies and cared for 12,000 children. But in our recent high school class reunion I learned of new joys and fulfillment in Gene's life. He periodically takes his medical skills and his heart to needy parts of the world via short term mission trips. Now you can hear some of the moving and meaningful stories told Gene Birdsong, including his travels to serve the victims of the tsunami devastation. He now delights in the joy of having delivered babies on three different continents and of helping save lives during those journeys. His joy is sometimes mixed with pain in seeing some deaths occur simply because the right medicines or facilities were not available. Some nostalgia gets into the interview when we recalled the great Jackson, MS Central High School football team with their near perfect winning seasons. The remarkable backfield included other friends . Mike Stanley, John Gainey, the late Johnny McKeithen, and, yes, Dr. Eugene Birdsong!"

Bower, John - June 14, 2007
John Bower is the son of St. Louis CBMC Director Stan and Laura Bower of St. Louis, Missouri. He is part of a small group of mostly young businessmen in the Dallas area, called "The Retreat." In his own words, John Bower says that men of “The Retreat” are “… seeking to know Jesus and walk in raw, organic community. We seek to affect ‘the least of these’ [that Jesus talked about in Matthew 25:40] on a local, national, and international level. In January, 2007, 7 of were privileged to visit Haiti for a week-long mission trip. Then in March 2007, 3 of our men were invited back to document a revival. They witnessed a spiritual revolution - 40,000 Haitians praying through the night - 100,000 Haitians marching on the capital of Port-au-Prince – 1,900 Haitians giving their lives to Christ. All this in an island dedicated to darkness in voodoo! And now we are men on assignment, called by God to tell the Haitian Story. As the Haitians would say, ‘Jezi Ap Avanse’. (Jesus is Moving!)”
